Blessed Sacrament Reunion

Welcome...This blog site was created to provide a forum for Blessed Sacrament Alumni to reconnect and share memories. It's our hope that reliving the laughter and recalling the antics can bring us all back to a time when life was so much less complicated!

Comments

Hi, Everyone! Well, I have been reading all the posts and none of the comments. On Mother's Day my sister Jaye read some of the comments out loud to my family. SOMEONE IS IN TROUBLE, MARK SCHWINN!!! Ronald McDonald didn't take it too well that my mom is a milf!!! What interesting reading those comments are!!! John Rydlewski--the Symanski-Davis pool parties that I went to were pretty G-rated. My suit was always on and I do remember correctly--so was Beth's. We did play a pretty racy game of spin-the-bottle once at Bobby Symanski's (racy for us then was a kiss lasting more than a few seconds!). Too bad we didn't know then what we know now!!! And Mr. Zagar, Ted if you will, some of your comments are so DEEP!!! I remember you as a serious and intense teacher--it sounds like you haven't changed. I'm really looking forward to this reunion. Blanche and Mark, I didn't even realize how much I've missed yous guys!!! How long has it been? Harry, Brian, Cindy Starkey, EVERYBODY--I can't wait to see you all!!!

I think Mark may have been grounded. He said in one of his first comments, Blanche had warned him. In response to the pool party without suites, I’m thinking you were either not at Danny Davis’s house that night or your trying to cover up. No pun intended. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it! Spin the bottle was always good!!! I for one am glad I didn’t know then what I know now, I might have children in their 30’s if I had.

Well do I recall the Markovich girls! I hope that you are both doing great.

I often wondered if you had family in East Chicago back then. We lived next door to an elderly couple named Ilyanich--not sure of the spelling--and they had two granddaughters just a tad younger than myself--so that would place them in their late 50's, as I am 61. One was Christine Markovich or maybe Christina, and for the life of me I cannot recall her little sister's name. Christina was blonde if that helps.

Anyway, they were a very nice family of people. If you walked around my block back then (and by the way I STILL live in the same house) you could find Greeks, Romanians, Croatians, Serbians, Mexicans, Italians, Slovaks, Russians, Jews, Poles--I'm serious, that's just on MY BLOCK ALONE, and I'm sure I'm leaving out a few.

It was great being raised in a diverse neighborhood, something my dad's parents never had in Croatia or mom's parents back in Romania. We learned that the stereotypes were nonsense when it came to holding them up to the light of comparing our classmates, coaches, teachers, neighbors and even best buds.

I do regret that I had ZERO African Americans in grade school (St. Mary, East Chicago) and damned few at Bishop Noll (maybe a handful out of 465 in my class of 1965--all girls, so I never met them anyway as Noll was gender segregated--my only class with girls was senior year physics). I think the first "black" that I knew was Claude Broomes, the son of Doctor Broomes of East Chicago, who was my fellow hurdler at Noll. Claude was a year behind me when I was a junior. He was smashing school records left and right and I really think he would have been state champ had his dad not pulled him out for a military school ending of his high school career.

I have been at Pierce Middle School for 15 years now. The town of Merrillville and the schools were very low in Af-Am population and that has reversed big time these past half dozen years or so. A high majority of kids and their parents are upright, decent people, and it is a pleasure to work with them. I only hope that the diversity won't be lost to another mainly homogenous culture-ethnicity.

You will all walk away from this reunion as if you spent a weekend in a magical realm. The reason is that many of you haven't seen each other in THREE DECADES. So it is quite different from the high school reunions held every 5 or 10 years, where you watch each other hit your 20's, 30's, 40's. One day, 12-14 years old, the next day, FIFTY!!!

I'm glad you are doing a weekend thing. That will allow people who can't do one thing to show up for another. Bring your cameras and Santa hats!

MAGIC CARPET RIDE

"I like to dream, yes, yes,
right between the sound machine (headphones?)
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here

Well, you don't know what we can find (at the REUNION!)
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride

You don't know what we can see (or WHO!!!!)
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free

Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you awayyyyyyyyyyyy!"

Cheryl, I'm with you on the pool party. I always kept my suit on or shirt.
Remember when you wore one of my suits? It was a hot pink bikini. Those pool parties were so much fun.

I has been fun reconnecting and I have missed my old friends also.
Beth

Mr.Zagar
The magic carpet ride has a different meaning to me, but now that you put it this way I tend to agree. It will be a magical night.

Ok, bring them out of the cheep seats. If Ron is upset about his wife being a ( MILF) then he is truly getting old. In his day, that would have been a turn on and his night may have been terrific. He can't tell his daughter that but, I know the true facts. It's a weekend!!!

Johnny I know for a fact that you were not at those late night swims so you must have been peeking over Davis's fence, so you saw silhouettes!
Because there was no nudity.
And I'm sticking to that!!!
What an imagination you have...

Peeking Tom Johnny, and now I'm wondering if it was you that was peeking in my bedroom window instead of Charlie. Poor Charlie, my brother beat the crap out of him for that. I'll have to tell him it was you instead.

Thanks for the Curvaceous though, I did have great curves back then.

I have only one response for that!!! Monumentous Mountain of Manure!!! Peeping Tom. Remember Beth Ann, I was a like a fixture at the Settle house. If I were going for a peak, I would have just walked in one your bedrooms and played dumb when Broadway got a hold of me. You underestimate the sneakiness!!! Sneaky, Sneaky!!!

Now Johnny, you must have forgotten what kind of temper I had back then.
If you had walked into my room for any reason you certainly wouldn't have walked around for awhile when I got done with you.
My room was off limits and you guys knew it.

You know for a fact that you would not have had to wait until Broadway got hold of you.
Am I Right???

You really do underestimate my sneakiness. The tails I could tell!!! The conversation overheard. Some days we blended into the walls so well, we really were like a fixture. Some days we just sat under the window and listened!!! Sneaky, Sneaky!!!
