That is very sad. I had no idea the school had closed. All kidding aside, The success I have enjoyed is a direct result of the foundation built at BS. We were all lucky to have had the knowledge and blessings we recieved from that school and church. Most of us probably could have done without the intimidation and beatings but I probably deserved more than I got. I think the nuns were afraid of my grandmother.

You know they had a sale at the gym at Blessed Sacrament when they closed and I and Chris went and picked up a few things. They were selling all the library books...remember we had to sign our names on a card to take them out?? We picked up a few with names in them our names and others...we had a good time shouting out the names we found when we were going through the books. I picked up an old basketball shirt and they had those instruments we used to play...those bells and sticks...remember..those were in really bad shape. We wanted to buy a desk but they weren't selling them since a charter school was going to rent the school building. Chris and I snuck around the gates and walked around the classrooms...everything was so much smaller than we remembered...and we saw the piano on wheels that Sr. Eymard used to wheel from classroom to classroom... It was a sad day knowing it was closing...part of our lives that shaped us into who we are today...despite the negative things that happened to us Catholic school was special...

Debbie,

When you picked up some old BS library books, did you chance upon an oversized tome on WWII published by American Heritage? Just wondering.

I recall that I had a subscription to that publisher and I also had that same book at home. Some young man (no names, but I think he goes by Slim Shady these days :)--or was it Paulie E?) turned in a project--probably on a poster as I dimly recall--and I recognized a few photos from my book at home pasted or taped unabashedly across the face of the "original" piece of work.

Checking with the librarian, indeed they had the same book, minus the suspect photos.

Well, Johnny (if it WAS indeed you), I hope that no matter what grade you received, the big lesson is to NEVER molest a book! Especially when the teacher is an author! haha!

It wasn't me, it wasn't me, I swear it wasn't me!!! It was Paul's idea I just went along with it! I do have a vague memory of the incident described. I was born a few years ahead of the technology needed to prevent such things from happening. Digital technology would certainly have prevented or documented the molestation described. So what is the statute of limitations on things of this nature? Can I still get in trouble for things I did back then? If not, I guess that’s enough excuses. The scariest part of all this is I did reproduce and have a son who is just like me. A little impulsive with a natural ability to find trouble or create it when necessary. That’s what our therapist’s say anyway. Many many session, many many dollars and still no resolution. Just kidding, we have resolved a couple things. Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!

Well Johnny, it almost scares me to think there is another one of you running around and it sounds like your son needs a Mr. Ted Zagar to straighten him out.

I mentioned this to Paul when I saw him this weekend and he said that it figured that you would blame him for this.

I'm sure Mr. Zagar will get to the bottom of this or it will be detention for both of you.
Fess up boys.
Molesting a book... how could you, I would have never thought to copy and steal an idea from a book....HA!

Having not lived in Indiana for many decades, I really never considered if the school were open or closed. I guess the fact that it operated for so long is a good thing, but I was really interested in the fact that the student body became less and less members of the church or even of the Roman Catholic religion. I presume that these later students were Black--is this true?
The memories become stronger and stronger as I read the posts and look at the photos contributed. Blessed Sacrament School was the major part of my life when I taught there, and I will always hold these memories (and all of you) very dear to my heart.

Well Mr Vlasic we all feel the same way about you. I'm sure you realize what a reprieve you were for many that suffered at the hands of others.

Thank you,
Beth
