The Infamous "Gas Explosions"

Okay folks...help me remember. What year was that?

What a frightening day that was. We were sent home from school but many of us were not allowed into our neighborhoods.

Does anyone remember some details?

I remember my Aunt coming from Merrillville to pick me up from school....my mom, brother and the dog were in the car but not my mice. (I use to have several mice as pets I kept in the basement). I was hysterical in the car because my mom would not go back and get my little pets...I think I had 11 at the time. I had visions of them catching on fire and being trapped in their cages on the exercise wheel trying to run from the fire.

Mark Kacmar says that the gas explosion happened around 1969-1970.
The reason he knew this is because he was living on 41st ave and Lincoln St. And then he moved to 44th and Lincoln in 1970.
So that is how he remembered gas explosion.
