Blessed Sacrament Reunion
Welcome...This blog site was created to provide a forum for Blessed Sacrament Alumni to reconnect and share memories. It's our hope that reliving the laughter and recalling the antics can bring us all back to a time when life was so much less complicated!

Welcome to the Blog Tony.
Even though you were with us I think only one year I remember you.
When first started this and we were looking at our 8th grade picture everyone was saying who is that guy?
I said don't you remember? It's Tony Tasoris....
That is a great picture I remember you all with fond memories.

From "Coach Zagar"
Gotta tell you guys, WHEREVER I went, athletic success followed. OR, was it just that I ARRIVED in time to see athletic success?
It all started with Blessed Sacrament. I don't know how you guys did BEFORE I got there or AFTER I left, but when I coached the baseball team they won CYO championship. Not sure how many teams were involved, but my boys were best.
Actually, the "streak" started during my student teaching at east Chicago Roosevelt High School. One of my students was Jim Bradley, an All State basketball player who led EC to state champs that year (1970). EC Washington won state the next year. Now those two schools are gone and EC Central is the consolidated school in town. Jim Bradley went on to play pro ball in Portland, where he was tragically murdered. I did a horoscope reading years later for his former girlfriend and she gave me the lowdown on what probably happened.
After BS I taught at Noll one year then went back into the steel mills. When they started to tank I got layed off and went back for my Masters, during which time Indiana University won the NCAA championship.
Once I finally got back into education--1993--at Pierce Middle School in Merrillville, Merrillville High School played in the state championship basketball game and ended up #2 in the state.
OK, anyone want to buy some of my "mojo" neatly packaged and guaranteed to win your next game, the gal/guy of your dreams, etc.? :)
Ted "Coach" Zagar
PS I will always remember Frank Kissel advising me to be "rougher" with the team--and with the class. I told him that they knew what they were there for and I didn't want to impose my will harshly on anyone. I wanted people to WANT to win and to WANT to learn, and to this day I am still very low key and I give people--small and large--all the space they need to "be themselves."
Mr. Zagar, that is what I always liked about you. You were very open minded about each and every one of us.
Keep leading children to an open mind.
Beth
Oh Mr. Zagar, when you come to the reunion please remember to bring some of your treasured memories with you.
Beth
Am I recognizing a pattern here? Why is Keith Underwood always conveniently missing for those history-making photo opportunities?
