March Madness - BSS Broncos B-ball

Does anyone remember playing basketball in the small gym of at some Christian school (probably Baptist) where the fan seating was in the balcony behind the backboards? All I remember was that the "stars " of the team (Bill Jones and Ray Barrera) were playing in the CYO all star game, so I got to play a lot. I made 1 of 12 free throws and my parents were sitting right behind the backboard staring as I threw up brick after brick. I know Mr. Marker coached in 8th grade who coached in 7th Grade? Dave Wasil - 1973.

Thanks Dave for remembering me although I'm not sure that "star" really applied. I used to love playing the game though. And yes I remember lots of very small gyms, no room on the side or end lines and in many cases the lighting was questionable at best! As a matter of fact I think the darker the gym, the better I shot! Hope you are well!

Dave,I to remember the game. I can't say where it was though. My brother (Joe) was actually a referee in the game :-). In 6th grade, my brother and a guy named Andy Jury was our coach (7th grade team) In 7th grade Mr Whalen was our coach. He would coach a team in 7th and 8th and then go back to 7th and start over. One of our last games in 7th grade at Lake jr. high after a close game, he dared me to stick my head through a big hoop of flowers (sorry Eva) and I did, he got in a fight with our 7th grade nun and quit. He tried to come back in 8th grade, but she wouldn't let him back. Mr. Marker and Mr. Jones took over. I remember a game at Ridge jr high, (where we actually practiced) the crowd was so loud, I had the ball and you were running down court, I threw the ball to you and you weren't even looking, you turned at the last second and caught the ball and made a great layup. Hope life has been good to you
Jim
